Costume Party

A mask is a terribly difficult thing to wear.
Once you decide on one, it's incredibly inconvenient to take off.
Countless people have come to know you by that mask,
completely unaware of its illegitimacy.
You try and tailor your actions to complement it.
You tailor your speech.
You tailor your dress,
and slowly, you begin to tailor your expectations.
But when the lights are off, or you've had little sleep,
not even a mask can hide you.
Even if that mask is nothing more than you trying hard to do & say
the right things.
There is no honor in effort.
There is no honor in good intentions.
In the end, someone always gets upset.
In the end, someone always gets let down.
Despite having earned my way, I still feel like an uninvited guest.
